Mini DisplayPort Connector Male 20 Pin Straddle Mount — DP-MN-M01 Product Overview
The DP-MN-M01 is a mini DisplayPort connector male 20 pin straddle mount — a compact Mini DP male plug engineered to clamp directly onto the edge of a 1.6mm printed circuit board. Manufactured by Vistar Electronics, this straddle mount Mini DP plug integrates the display output port directly into the PCB assembly, eliminating the need for a separate cable, wire harness, or bracket between the PCB and the Mini DisplayPort interface. This makes the DP-MN-M01 the ideal choice for FPGA development boards, embedded display controllers, compact GPU add-in cards, industrial single-board computers, and any PCB design where a Mini DisplayPort output must originate directly from the board edge.
The Mini DisplayPort (mDP) interface is a compact variant of the full-size DisplayPort standard, introduced by Apple and VESA in 2008. Despite its smaller physical footprint, the Mini DP interface carries an identical 20-pin signal assignment to full-size DisplayPort — all four Main Link differential pairs (ML_Lane 0–3), the AUX channel, Hot Plug Detect (HPD), CONFIG1, CONFIG2, and power pins. The mini DP plug PCB clamp 1.6mm design of the DP-MN-M01 retains this complete signal capability, supporting Mini DisplayPort 1.2 (up to 4K@60Hz, HBR2 21.6 Gbps) and Mini DisplayPort 1.4 (up to 8K@60Hz with DSC, HBR3 32.4 Gbps) when paired with a compatible source GPU or display controller.
The straddle mount configuration of the DP-MN-M01 mini DisplayPort connector positions the connector body straddling both sides of the PCB edge: the solder contacts land on pads on both the top and bottom PCB surfaces at the board edge, while the Mini DP male plug housing protrudes beyond the edge — ready to mate with a standard Mini DP female cable or receptacle. The 1.6mm clamping slot accommodates the industry-standard 1.6mm PCB thickness used in the vast majority of commercial and industrial PCB designs. No mechanical fasteners, screws, or housing brackets are required — the solder joints provide both electrical connection and mechanical retention.
According to the VESA DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort specification, the Mini DP interface uses a 20-pin connector that is electrically identical to full-size DisplayPort but in a smaller 7.5mm × 4.6mm housing — approximately one-third the size of the full-size connector. The straddle mount mini DP male connector DP-MN-M01 is mechanically compliant with this specification and mates correctly with all standard Mini DP female cables and receptacles, including full-size DisplayPort cables with Mini DP adapters.
The DP-MN-M01 is rated at 0.5A per contact, with a maximum insertion force of 35N and minimum withdrawal force of 8N, ensuring secure mating under normal operating conditions. The 5,000-cycle mating life rating satisfies commercial-grade display port application requirements. Gold-plated phosphor bronze contacts provide stable, low-resistance signal transmission across the connector’s service life, while the zinc alloy shell provides effective EMI shielding for the sensitive high-frequency Mini DisplayPort differential signals that are essential for error-free 4K and 8K video transmission.
The LCP insulator body is rated for SMT reflow soldering, allowing the DP-MN-M01 to be placed and soldered in a standard SMT production process alongside other surface-mount components. This eliminates a separate through-hole or hand-soldering assembly step, reducing production cost and cycle time for volume production. Available in tape-and-reel packaging for automated SMT placement lines and tray packaging for manual assembly and prototyping.

Why Engineers Choose the DP-MN-M01 Straddle Mount Mini DP Male Connector for Compact PCB Designs
Straddle Mount — Direct PCB-Edge Mini DP Output, No Cable Harness
The straddle mount design clamps the Mini DP male plug directly onto the 1.6mm PCB edge, integrating the display output port into the PCB assembly without a separate cable, wire harness, or bracket. This simplifies the system architecture of display controller boards, FPGA eval cards, and embedded display modules where the Mini DP output must originate directly from the PCB.
Mini DisplayPort 1.2 / 1.4 — Up to 8K@60Hz Display Output
Full 20-pin VESA Mini DisplayPort male signal assignment supports mDP 1.2 (4K@60Hz, HBR2 21.6 Gbps) and mDP 1.4 (8K@60Hz with DSC, HBR3 32.4 Gbps). All four Main Link differential pairs, AUX channel, HPD, and power pins are fully wired — enabling the complete Mini DP feature set including HDR, Multi-Stream Transport (MST), and FreeSync/G-Sync where supported by the source controller.
Compact Mini DP Form Factor — Space-Efficient Board-Edge Port
The Mini DisplayPort housing is approximately one-third the size of a full-size DisplayPort connector (7.5mm × 4.6mm vs 16.1mm × 4.8mm). For space-constrained PCB designs — FPGA boards, SBC carrier boards, compact GPU cards — the DP-MN-M01 delivers the same 20-pin signal capability in a significantly smaller board-edge footprint compared to the full-size DP straddle mount variant.
1.6mm PCB Clamp — No Fasteners or Housing Required
The clamping mechanism grips the standard 1.6mm PCB edge without screws, nuts, or mechanical housing brackets. This reduces BOM component count, simplifies PCB assembly, and eliminates the bracket hardware required by panel-mount connectors — particularly valuable for dense PCIe add-in cards, SBC boards, and display modules where every square millimetre of PCB area matters.
SMT Reflow Compatible — High-Volume Production Ready
The LCP insulator body and gold-plated contacts are qualified for standard SMT reflow soldering temperature profiles. The DP-MN-M01 can be placed and soldered in the same SMT reflow production pass as other surface-mount components, eliminating a separate assembly step and reducing manufacturing cost for high-volume production.
RoHS 3 & REACH Compliant — Globally Export Ready
Fully compliant with RoHS 3 (EU Directive 2015/863) and REACH SVHC substance regulations. Compliance declarations of conformity and REACH SVHC substance statements are available on request for EU CE marking, supply chain qualification audits, and customer documentation requirements.

DP-MN-M01 Mini DisplayPort Straddle Mount Connector — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Mini DisplayPort and full-size DisplayPort?
Mini DisplayPort (mDP) and full-size DisplayPort (DP) are electrically identical — both carry the same 20-pin signal assignment including all four Main Link lanes, AUX channel, HPD, and power pins, and both support the same DisplayPort protocol versions (1.2, 1.4, 2.0). The only differences are physical:
- Full-size DP: 16.1mm × 4.8mm housing — standard for desktop monitors, docking stations, and large PCBs
- Mini DP: 7.5mm × 4.6mm housing — approximately one-third the width — standard for laptops, compact boards, and space-constrained designs
A Mini DP cable can connect to a full-size DP port using a passive adapter cable (no active electronics required). See the VESA DisplayPort specification for the full technical details of both connector formats.
What DisplayPort versions does the DP-MN-M01 support?
The DP-MN-M01 is a passive 20-pin Mini DisplayPort male plug supporting Mini DisplayPort 1.2 and 1.4 signal assignments. As a passive connector it does not limit the protocol version — actual capability depends on the source GPU or display controller, the cable, and the sink display.
With a mDP 1.2 source: up to 4K@60Hz (HBR2, 21.6 Gbps total). With a mDP 1.4 source: up to 8K@60Hz with DSC (HBR3, 32.4 Gbps total). The same physical connector is forward-compatible with DisplayPort 2.0 source controllers outputting via the Mini DP interface.
Is the DP-MN-M01 a male or female connector? What does it mate with?
The DP-MN-M01 is a Mini DisplayPort male plug — it has the protruding locking tongue that inserts into a Mini DP female receptacle or cable. On your PCB, it functions as the source-side Mini DP output port.
It mates with:
- Any standard Mini DisplayPort female cable (Mini DP cable with a female end)
- Any Mini DisplayPort female receptacle on a monitor or downstream device
- Full-size DisplayPort cables via a passive Mini DP to DP adapter
If you need a Mini DP female receptacle on the PCB instead, see our mid-mount Mini DP connector right-angle.
What PCB thickness does the DP-MN-M01 straddle mount accommodate?
The DP-MN-M01 is dimensionally designed for the 1.6mm standard PCB thickness — the most common PCB thickness used in commercial and industrial electronics. The clamping slot is precision-toleranced for 1.6mm boards to ensure proper seating and solder joint quality.
If your PCB uses a non-standard thickness (e.g. 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 2.0mm), please contact Vistar sales to confirm compatibility before ordering production quantities. Non-standard thicknesses may affect the mechanical fit and solder joint integrity.
Can the DP-MN-M01 be used with Thunderbolt cables?
The DP-MN-M01 is a Mini DisplayPort male plug — it is mechanically compatible with Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2 cables and ports, which share the same Mini DP physical connector format. However, electrically the DP-MN-M01 only carries DisplayPort signals — it does not support Thunderbolt’s PCIe tunnelling, USB, or other Thunderbolt-specific protocols. When connected to a Thunderbolt port, it will function as a DisplayPort video output only (the Thunderbolt host will detect a DP-only device).
Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 use the USB-C physical connector and are not physically compatible with the Mini DP format.
How is the DP-MN-M01 soldered onto the PCB?
The DP-MN-M01 uses SMT (surface-mount) straddle soldering: the contact tails solder to pads on both the top and bottom PCB surfaces at the board edge. No through-holes are required. The LCP insulator is rated for standard SMT reflow temperature profiles, allowing placement and soldering in the same reflow oven pass as other SMT components.
PCB layout note: the board edge must be routed (milled) to the correct position relative to the DP-MN-M01 solder pads. The product datasheet (available from Vistar sales on request) provides the precise PCB footprint dimensions, edge routing position, pad sizes, and courtyard for the DP-MN-M01.
