Know More About USB-C Connector

The USB-C connector interface, referred to as USB-C, is located at the bottom of the smartphone and is mostly used for charging, data transmission and other purposes. In December 2013, the USB 3.0 promotion team had released a rendering of the next-generation USB Type-C connector, which was then ready for mass production in August 2014. The biggest feature of the Type-C double-sided pluggable interface is that it supports double-sided insertion of the USB interface, which officially solves the worldwide problem of “USB can never be plugged in correctly”, and can be plugged in at will. At the same time, the USB data cable used with it must also be thinner and lighter.

The Type-C interface and the USB3.1 standard were introduced almost at the same time, and the Type-C specification is indeed formulated according to the USB3.1, so USB3.1 can of course be made into the Type-C type, but what needs to be understood is: Type-C Not equal to USB3.1.

USB3.1 has three connection interfaces, namely Type-A (Standard-A), Type-B (Micro-B) and Type-C. Type-C greatly reduces the physical appearance and is more suitable for short and thin handheld devices. Type-C will replace the Micro-AB connector (supports direct transfer of USB devices without the intervention of the main control system), It will also replace the general Micro-USB connector. The Type-C imitates the Apple Lightning connector. Both front and back can be connected and used normally. It is more ideal than the existing Micro-USB. Although Micro-USB has a foolproof mechanism to prevent reverse connection, but The benefits of positive and negative connection are better than preventing reverse connection. Good-quality Type-C cables also have enhanced EMI and RFI suppression features.

Why USB-C Connector has become a Revolutionary?

  • It is actually the design of the port that makes USB-C connector faster, smaller and durable.
  • USB before type-c has only 4 to 5 pins but type c has 24 pins with only 0.5 mm distance between them.
  • USB-C invention is not a one man job. There are more than 700 companies including Microsoft , Apple who together researched to develop.
  • The USB Implementers forum (USB-IF) is a non profit organization created to promote and support the Universal Serial BUS (USB).
  • USB-C is just a new type of connector interface and the underlying technology could just be USB 2 or USB 3.0
  • In a simple way, USB 3.1 is like a water motor And USB type c is like a water pipe. For fast water supply we need both best motor and pipe. Similarly for fast charging we need both USB 3.1 and type c connector.
  • This is the reason why some type c cables do not charge fast as they lack USB 3.1 or 3.0 .

24 pins are perfectly aligned opposite to each other, making no difference to up side and down side.

  • USB- C transfers data bidirectional i.e; phone to PC and PC to phone at the same time.
  • Increases durability up to 10,000 insertion cycles. Previous version has up to 1500 insertion cycles.

Various speeds of USB types…

Sooner or later we will have only one cable i.e; Type-C ( truly Universal).

Now with the emergence of USB4, various specifications have gradually begun to be integrated, and the Type-C interface has secured its position. Will the physical interface become more uniform in the future? We will wait and see.
